Warning of today’s theory: This theory is very niche to Avatar the Last Airbender (ATLA) and Legends of Korra (LOK) and their universe (AU). If you know nothing about this series this may not be the theory for you. Also, if you’re not into the idea of potential queer stuff this may also not be the theory for you.
I start this theory off with letting you all know that I dive really deep into series like this every once in a while and I usually move past them rather quickly but I’ve been stuck here for about 2 weeks unable to not binge everything avatar related. I’ve read the fanfics, the comics, the Facebook fan theories, I’ve seen the shows at least 10 times at this point and I’m stuck on this idea.
The idea in question that all avatars from Wan(the first avatar) to Korra (the last avatar) all have a strong AFAB (assigned female at birth) partner. Like I said this is just an idea/theory. Don’t go up in these comments spouting some noise. The theory comes from a Korra fanfic I read a few times now it’s called March of Progress by Writerleft. If you want to read it click it, it’s linked and so fricken good!!!! They discuss the relationship between Avatar Korra and Asami and also touch very briefly on Avatar Kyoshi who is also a queer avatar.
My theory thinks about the lack of male led gay relationships in the AU. Like there’s no gay avatars thus far in fact there are also no straight female avatars touched upon either. Isn’t that crazy? My theories are always crazy but that’s crazy. Aang had Katara, Kyoshi had Rangi, Roku had Ta Min and Korra had Asami. See a trend there? All of these avatars had a woman to spend their lives with. Even if you go before Kyoshi which it doesn’t really speak of much in the shows it was Kuruk who had Ummi.
This could mean nothing, I mean really it doesn’t mean absolutely anything because this is just me sputtering words along. But it could also mean that maybe Raava aka the avatars guiding spirit had some feelings toward women.
In any regard the series is full of man haters to be quite honest but that’s just my opinion. All of their enemies were very misogynistic seeming. Even the women who were enemies, Kuvira for example had very masculine energy.
I digress, the point of this post is just to expel my theory that Avatars are a women loving species and as a member of the queer community, I stan this soo hard! Thanks for reading hope y’all enjoyed!
